About Roosevelt Lake

Roosevelt Lake is a Tonto Basin reservoir page for boating, paddling, shoreline camping, fishing access, scenic drives, and trips that connect the Salt River lakes with Globe and Payson routes.

Make the Most of a Roosevelt Lake Day

Use wind, heat, storm timing, and road conditions to choose a marina, campground, or shore-based plan. The area is broad and remote enough that backup plans should be chosen before leaving town.

Weather Tips for Roosevelt Lake

  • Lake wind, lightning, extreme heat, limited shade, wildfire restrictions, smoke, and flash flooding near washes can all affect lake plans.
  • Check wind, waves, current, and lightning before choosing open water, shoreline, or river plans.
  • For campground days, check overnight lows, fire restrictions, storm timing, and how quickly shelter is available.
  • Never treat dry washes or canyon bottoms as safe during nearby storms because runoff can arrive from miles away.

Nearby Towns and Areas

This page is meant to cover a roughly 25-mile outdoor-planning area around Roosevelt Lake, including Roosevelt Lake marinas and recreation sites, Tonto Basin, Roosevelt Dam, Tonto National Monument approaches, and nearby Salt River lake routes. It can also be useful when planning outdoor time near:

  • Tonto Basin
  • Roosevelt Dam
  • Tonto National Monument
  • Cholla Recreation Site
  • Windy Hill area
  • Punkin Center
  • Salt River approaches

Plan Around the Conditions

Use the forecast to choose the best version of Roosevelt Lake rather than forcing one itinerary. Match heat, sun exposure, wind, storm timing, water conditions, trail surfaces, fire restrictions, elevation, and road conditions to the activity that gives your group the most comfortable day.
